Zagats Pune: Part 2

See: previous entry

After 3 weeks with no meat the thought of killing one of the local goats
was looming large in my mind. (But how to get it back past the apartment dogs?...)

Khyber (JM road south of the Crosswords bookstore)
Decor: plus poiints for
  • isolating you from traffic rather than trying to use the traffic on JM road as scenery
  • couches for seats
  • tablecloths, cloth napkins.
  • MEAT.

Food: Khyber is the only place in Pune (so far) who's non-veg menu contains more than one flimsy chicken dish. There's tons of stuff with Chicken (murgh) and lamb (gohst).
Why? It's north-north indian, almost Afgani. And those hill people don't screw around
with cabbage and lentils, they kill stuff and eat it.
(If you want Afgani in the city try Khyber Pass on St.Mark's place, my dad used
to work down on LES and I've been going there since I was 12)

The menu is like an indian restaurant back home, but of a higher quality and of course
spicier.

Cost: 2 beers + lamb rogan josh + jerra rice + naan = Rs 300.
